The Writing
Six Channels.
Two Writers.
One Life’s Work.
What happens when professional writers build a farm, hunt horses, and fish the Carolina coast — and write about all of it. Honestly.
Everything here grows out of the same place: a working farm in Surry County, a life built around land and animals and craft, and two writers who have been doing this long enough to know the difference between a story worth telling and content worth skipping.
The six channels below aren’t separate projects. They’re facets of the same ongoing conversation — about food, tradition, horses, hunting, place, and the work of making a life worth writing about. Read one. Read all of them. The threads run together.
Farm & Home
|
Food & Cooking Two Shoes KitchenBy T.P. & S.A. Shoemaker Real food from a real kitchen — farm-raised, foraged, fished, and hunted. Recipes that work because they come from people who eat what they cook and cook what they can get their hands on. Game, heritage vegetables, fresh catch from the Carolina coast, and the traditions that make a meal worth sitting down for. “We don’t do meal prep. We do dinner.” |
Farm Life & Homesteading The Hollow HomesteadBy T.P. & S.A. Shoemaker The unglamorous, genuine work of building and running a small farm. Fencing, breeding cycles, infrastructure decisions, seasonal rhythms — written by people living it, not visiting it. Practical guides alongside honest dispatches from the field. No aesthetic farming. Just farming. “The work is the point. The story is what you tell afterward.” |
Field & Water
|
Foxhunting & Tradition The Friendly FoxhunterBy T.P. & S.A. Shoemaker Written for people who hunt and the curious who want to understand it. History, etiquette, the culture of the field, and the genuine pleasure of a sport that has changed less than almost anything else in modern life. Neither a primer nor a polemic — a conversation between people who love the chase. “The fox always gets away. That’s rather the point.” |
Local & Regional 757 CircularBy T.P. & S.A. Shoemaker A slow newsletter about Hampton Roads — the history underneath the present, the places most people drive past, the businesses and people quietly doing things worth knowing about. Written for people who live here and want to see it more clearly. “Local news moves fast. Local knowledge moves slow. This is the slow kind.” |

Poetry & Literary Writing S.A. Borders-ShoemakerBy S.A. Borders-Shoemaker The literary channel. Poetry, essays, and the kind of writing that resists categories. S.A. is a published author whose work is rooted in place, in bodies and landscapes, in the language that survives after everything easier has been said. “Writing begins when the obvious thing to say is no longer enough.” |
Craft, Business & the Trade T.P. ShoemakerBy T.P. Shoemaker The professional channel. T.P. is a working copywriter and editor who writes about the craft and business of writing — how it actually works, what it pays, what it costs, and what it means to build a practice around words in an industry that has never been more complicated or more interesting. “More candor than most. That’s the whole pitch.” |
